In our OTS we took many inspiration from 5 iconic movies when looking fort he kind of shots we wanted to use. We looked at films such as Human Centipede - 2010, Frankenstein - 1931, Shutter Island - 2010, Deadpool - 2016 and Halloween - 1978. All of these films helped us with inspiration for our OTS 'Subject 12.'
Challenging Conventions
On the whole, we didn't really challenge many conventions as we wanted to make our opening title sequence as effective as possible and we thought that we would take points from previous successful horror films and successful theorists.
The biggest challenge to conventions that we made would be that we decided to make our film a psychological horror. This is because this sub genre of horror is very rarely used as it is hard to pull off effectively. However, this is effective as it is different to the norm and we have put a lot of time and effort into making it a successful opening title sequence.

Conforming Conventions
In our OTS, a convention we conformed with was that the actors we used conformed with their stereotypes. We casted a small vulnerable boy who wears glasses as the victim as victims are often portrayed and viewed as being feeble and weak. We casted a large, bulky and muscular male to be the attacker as murderers are often thought of as being big, powerful and imposing figures.
Another convention we conformed with was the music we used. we used low pitched sounds to build the atmosphere and the tension. Throughout the opening title sequence, the sound intensifies making the audience feel insecure.
Like most horror films that use dark 'harsh' lighting which creates 'tension' and 'fear' we used harsh, dark lighting to create the effect of fear and tension, We used this throughout our opening title sequence. The opening title sequence is set during the night which conforms with conventions that horrible events occur at night.
